Professional Paradise
...Some might say that’s an oxymoron. But even those who readily believe it is in fact possible to achieve a constant state of “paradise” or “bliss” at work might think that finding Professional Paradise in today’s tumultuous economy is ludicrous.
In fact, in today’s business and economic climate, Professional Paradise is no longer an option – it’s a requirement. Far more than a feel-good concept, Professional Paradise is a solid, business-altering paradigm that revolutionizes the way people feel and think about work, and therefore, how they perform.
What is Professional Paradise?
When you are satisfied, energized and productive at work, you are in Professional Paradise. You are at ease – focused and connected. You work to your strengths, routinely perform at your peak and effortlessly produce results. Your interactions with coworkers and customers are positive and productive. If you have to work for a living, what could be better than that?
Perhaps you’re thinking that Professional Paradise comes from working for a particular company or having a certain job. This is most definitely not true. Professional Paradise is a state of being – a state of mind backed up with intentional action. In Professional Paradise you turn stumbling blocks into stepping-stones...or POWs into WOWs!
Would your employees say they work in Professional Prison or Professional Paradise? Evidence indicates that far too many people feel stuck in their jobs. Perhaps that’s why disengagement is still consistently cited as a top concern within organizations. You see, many people are waiting for their boss, organization, coworkers or customers to change, because they think that when other folks get it right, then they will be happy at work. The fact of the matter is that each of us is the CPO – Chief Paradise Officer – of our job.
Professional Paradise is dependent on your inner world (your mindset, thoughts and viewpoint) more than your outer world. You have to take action to put your thoughts into practice. Your mindset drives your actions, which in turn drive outcomes.
Mindset ® Actions ® Outcomes
What Can a Leader Do?
While engagement is without question a personal matter, as a leader, you play a crucial role in supporting employees to create their own Professional Paradise. You guide them in developing personal accountability for engagement and job satisfaction. How can you lead your team in escaping from stressed to satisfied, pooped to productive and stuck to soaring?
- Become the CPO – Chief Paradise Officer – of your own job.
- Ask employees to identify what Professional Paradise means to them.
- Identify key work beliefs and how these impact staff behavior and, ultimately, results.
- Create “safe harbors” where transparency and open communication are the rule.
- Share the score with staff. Let them know about key business metrics that drive business outcomes.
Professional Paradise, an oxymoron? I don’t think so. Are we there yet? |
