Ever heard of Fantasy Football? It’s a virtual game in which football fans compete. They assemble a team of real-life NFL players and then base their scores on the players’ statistical on-field performance. Well, I’d like to create my own version of Fantasy Baseball. In my Fantasy Baseball league, you don’t pick your players. You pick your rules!
The first rule I want to get rid of is one we’re most familiar with…“Three strikes and you’re out!”
That last part – “you’re out” – is so final and so unrealistic when compared to real life. For instance, there is no preset number that puts you “out” in life. You determine the number that puts you out. Apply for a promotion and get turned down twice and give up, and your number is two. Try to develop a positive relationship five times and give up, and your number is five. You get the idea.
Now, picture yourself up to bat at the plate of life. On your the third “strike,” the umpire yells, “You’re outta there!”
You calmly turn and say, “Not yet…I have as many chances as I want.”
The umpire looks at you in disbelief and the fans (at least the home fans, the ones that count) cheer wildly because they’re on your side. So, you stay at the plate and you keep swinging and you keep swinging until…you hit it out of the park! Home run!
Can you picture it? Sort of makes you want to Play Ball, doesn’t it? |
